To iPad or not to iPad?

Do you let your kids play with tablets, phones, etc?

We love to use the iPad for facetime with family and for a while that was the only exposure Caroline had with the iPad.

Then she found out about the games.
I downloaded some educational apps, these are our favorite:
Bubbles
Peek a boo Barn
You Version Bible for kids
Lotto Match Game (she is so good at this one!)
and the Fisher Price ABC's and Numbers Games.

When she wants to play she calls the iPad bubbles because that's the first game she played!
But the rule is she can play with it one day a week for an hour or two.
And, rarely if we are going to be in the car for a few hours I will put on a movie, for my sanity.

Overall, we aren't techie, gamer, gadget folks.
I still don't know how to use my iPhone to its full potential and I am fine with that.
Speaking of, is it me or does the blogger app stink? Maybe I'm not doing it right.

Anyways...

I love that Caroline would rather read books, play dress up, have tea parties, color and play outside instead of watching TV all day.

Don't get me wrong, shes loves some Frozen and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Saturday mornings.

I know her generation is going to be completely dependent on tech devices and there is no getting around that.
But for now, one day a week is plenty for us.
And as for my phone, that is off limits!
Sorry, but I'm not sharing that.
If she picks it up, she will try to play with it but then quickly remembers that it is Mommy's and she better turn it over!
The only thing she is allowed to do is look at photos with me.

This is what I found works for us and our lifestyle but i ask...

Am I being too strict?
Or should she even play with the iPad at all?
What are your rules for devices?
