DIY: Shabby Chic Side Chair

STOP!
Don't even think about throwing out those dining chairs you had from your first apartment!
You WILL need them later for something...

Don't fear the refinish!
It is so simple.

First: Wipe down the chair thoroughly.

Next: Get a tarp and head out to the garage to begin sanding. I used a medium grit sand paper.

Then: Wipe down the chair once more to get all of the dust off and cover any parts you don't want to paint with blue tape.

Fun part: Start painting with a foam brush to avoid brush strokes. I used a sample pint from the many I had left over from picking out the wall color for my Little's room, just your basic Sherwin Williams eggshell paint. I did a few coats and let it dry in between applications.

Then: I sanded the edges and crevasses to give it that "shabby chic" look. The chair was a medium stain underneath to begin with so when I sanded, the color popped out perfectly!

Lastly: I applied a coat of furniture wax to give the color a little luster.

Ta-da!

Did you spot the super cute oversized ruler?!
I made that too!

and props to my crafty Momma for the adorable knitted blanket, it is by far my Little's favorite!

Great DIY Project:: The Midas Touch

I'm loving the use of metallics in interors lately and when I was designing my Little's nusery I wanted the gold look for less. Enter, IKEA!

The Husband spray painted the Ikea Vittsjo bookshelf with Rust-Olium Metallic and with a few coats... voila!

I love the end result!

Stay tuned for more pics and DIY's from my Little's room!

One More Thing...

Have you read One More Thing?

LOL!

It's a book for us "ADD" readers.

I love to read, but half the time I am counting the pages to the next chapter and checking the clock to see how long it will take me to read that much and then I end up staring at the words and have no idea what happened...then I lie awake wondering about it, but it's too late to go back and read it over again because 6am is creeping up on my alarm clock (aka: my little). So, in short, it takes me forever to get through a book.

I am just NOW 4 chapters deep into Mockingjay. That book has only been glaring at me from my nightstand for over a year.

enter: One More Thing by B.J. Novack.

It is a collection of fictional short stories ranging from a few sentences to a few pages.

Perfectly perfect for an instant gratification reader like myself!

Once I put the Hunger Games Trilogy to rest, One More Thing is next in line for a position on my nightstand.

Have a Pleasant Weekend!

I know I will... off to Canton Trade Days in search of treasures with my Momma!

It Seams Sew Easy...

I'm going to do it.

I am going to finally learn how to sew.

My mother in law gave me her sewing machine 7 years ago and learning how to sew has been goal of mine ever since. I've made it my New Year's Resolution over and over and this year I am really going to do it, really!

Maybe it's the countdown to my 30th birthday that has given me the motivation, or maybe it's the super cute little girl dresses that I see for sale on facebook that I race to the checkout for and end up leaving with nada because they sell out in less than a minute! (moms of little girls... you know what I'm talking about :) or maybe it's just the need to try something new.

whatever it is, I'm going for it.

and to keep me accountable, I will post my progress right here... once a month...

I have so many fond memories watching my Mom sew everything from halloween costumes to my very first prom dress! She has a singer sewing machine just like this one and I can still hear that thing sing!

I can only hope to be as good as her.

Now... where the heck to I start!?

Pinterest Made Us Do It! : Spring Wreath

A sweet friend of mine and I decided to get together once a month and get our craft on!
Of course we turn to Pinterest for inspiration then head to hobby lobby with our littles!

We do our best to get out of there with out spending an arm and a leg that we would have to "explain" to our husbands... like they can really tell us to return it :)

After a yummy lunch at Yummy's greek and playtime/attempted nap with the littles...
Here's what my glue gun and I created for spring!

I have to say this was a Pinterest WIN!

10 Favorite Things Under $10!

Take a look-see at a few of my favorite things under $10!

Clockwise from top left:

My Favorite Tank!
I live in these racer back shelf cami tanks from Old Navy. I think I have at least 10 white and black ones!

My Favorite Lip Balm!
For a while there I thought this cutesy lip balm was one of those trendy beauty essentials that was in it's 15 minutes of fame and I try not to buy into EVERY little trend, but once I tried it I was hooked!
I'm ready to try more flavors :)

My Favorite Mug!

My Favorite Soap!
Mrs. Meyers Lavender hand soap, it's just divine!

My Favorite Home Accessory!
It's amazing what live plants and flowers can do for your home! They instantly bring charm and life to a room. I love a simple white potted orchid and can usually find them on sale for $9.99 at my local grocery store or hardware store.

My Favorite Colorful Jewelry!
Have seen these gorgeous Nepal Mission beaded bracelets? If you haven't, you need to get a couple! They are fun to stack and bring a happiness to your outfit.

My Favorite Stay at Home Activity!
Coloring has always been a love of mine and now my little loves to scribble all over my drawing pad! These large washable crayons are perfect for tiny hands, just don't let the dog eat them... it's not fun and expensive!!

My Favorite Indulgence!
I love a good chocolate chip cookie and when a friend of my from Church introduced me to Tate's I was in cookie heaven! Confession: I bought a bag that following Monday, came home and ate half of them in one sitting!! OMG!

My Favorite Notepad!
Knock Knock has the quirkiest little gifts and I would be lost at the store without my All Out Of notepad!

My Favorite Party Must Have!
Paper Straws are a fun detail to add to any party, and you can find them in tons of colors and patterns to go with any theme! I have found that most party and hobby stores are carrying them now.

I hope you enjoyed my 10 favorites under $10 list!!

Have a great week!
