Five (or Seven) on Friday

It's been a crazy week!

Five on Friday might be more like seven or eight...

-ONE-

It's show time folks!
Last Friday was my studio's end of year performance. I'm so lucky to still be able to do what I love, dance!

Here are a few show time selfies with my dancer besties...
Please excuse the excessive amounts of make up :)

Ohhhh the elem. class is so stinking cute!!

-TWO-

My sweet almost teenager (omg) niece stayed the night after my show and the next morning we made our signature blueberry sunshine pancakes and crafted flower crowns!

Soooo sweet! Love those girls!

-THREE-

The night after show all of us girls went to see Blake Shelton to celebrate a great performance!!
At this point none of us has slept more than a few hours that week but we managed to make it through. The guitar shaped frozen beverages helped :)

Annnnnd Miranda lambert performed!!

We had so much fun!

-FOUR-

Sooo looks like I'm in the wreath making business now and I love it! They are so much fun to create.

This one will be finished and delivered tomorrow! I'll be sure to post the finished product!

-FIVE-

It has been raining like crazy all week and we finally got a break for a few hours so we went to the splash pad!

I thought for sure Caroline would nap after all that...
I was wrong.

-SIX-

My friend Ashley and I finally got to take our Sewing 101 class. (Take one: fail, take two: win)
Stay tuned for a more detailed post next week... Until then, here are a few snapshots!

Got our Starbucks and we are ready for class!!

Thanks to my super sweet momma for watching the girls! Hay hay apparently had fun and needed a nap mid snack!

Sewing selfie!

Needs major pressing and pockets but I MADE it!!

-SEVEN-

I'm super excited about my new J. Crew Factory dress that arrived yesterday!! It will be perfect for this weekend's events. More on that next week but until then, go to J. Crew Factory online... Huge sales right now!!

Have a pleasant weekend!

DIY Wreaths!

So, I have a thing with wreaths.
If the sewing gig doesn't work out, I may just make wreaths instead.  It's so much fun and I love the coziness it adds to my home.
A pretty wreath says "Welcome, glad to have you!" Don't you agree?

these are so easy to make and don't require a lot of supplies . they could if you really wanted to junk them up. I say junk, but that's a term my mom and I use with something needs lots of flare :)

Pinterest has made it even easier with step by step tutorials and tons of ideas.
I pin things daily and sometimes nightly when I can't sleep. Or I blog like I am doing right now.

I would love to share some of my creations with you!

First up, my lavender wreath.

This one probably took 2.5 seconds.
Simple grapevine wreath with lavender sprays hot glued and tucked in. I added the roses on top for a little " junk"

Next, the Aggie inspired burlap wreath I made for my best friend's new house!
This one requires 30 ft of natural burlap, 15 ft of the chevron, and 15 ft of the accent ribbon. Sounds like a lot but it goes fast!!
I used a medium sized wire wreath frame and started threading the natural burlap and tied it off with pipe cleaners. Then, I layered in the next two ribbons and glued on the monogram and flowers. I added more flowers to the top after I took this picture.

Happy Easter wreath!
Made the same way as the lavender one.
I shamefully admit I just took this one down.... Yes I know it's waaaayyyy past Easter. I guess I shouldn't mention I just took the hanging eggs out of my front tree...
I'm not as bad as one neighbor who left their inflatable Santa out until mid march last year, okay!!!

Last one, my 4th of July wreath!
Made the same way as the Aggie wreath.
Feeling inspired?

Drive don't run to Hobby Lobby right now!
We'll obviously not now because it's 11:30 at night, but go when they open tomorrow! All ribbon is half off!

If crafting isn't your thing just let me know, I'd be happy to make you one!
Not for free of course. But I seriously do love making these :)

xoxo,

Mac and Cheese, Really?!

It's my first link up and I thought I'd share our kitchen redo!

7 years ago we bought our first home!
It was a day we will never forget... and same goes for the kitchen!

It all started with the mac and cheese colored walls.
Seriously, the walls looked like some one poured the blue box cheese powder into a gallon of paint and slopped it on to the walls!

take a look for yourself...

We soon began the process of redoing the kitchen starting with paint.
I can't rember the exact date but painting occured within a month of moving.
I couldn't walk out of my bedroom and see this everyday (albeit cheerful) any longer!

I chose a much more neutral color...
enter: Sherwin Williams Latte.

I prefer a latte over powder cheese any day

Side note: Have you seen the "Do you wanna go to Starbucks" Frozen Parody?
Awesomeness! link below.

Back to the kitchen.

Then came the new appliances and a simple white drum shade to replace the cobalt blue saucer light.
and the biggest change of all... white cabinets WITH hardware!

Houses very rarely have kitchen hardware and it drives me nuts!

The final project was replacing the mexican tile island top with black granite.
To save $$, I framed out a sheet of plywood and tiled 12x12 granite tiles on top.

We loved the way it turned out and hope that the future owners enjoy it as much as we have!

Because...

We have FINALLY found a new "old" house!
It only took 18 months... eighteen months, ugh!

Once the master bath redo is complete we will move to our cozy yellow farm house in the country this summer!

Plenty of pics to come of that project, stay tuned!

P.S. Someone needs to make a Mom version of this!

DIY: Shabby Chic Side Chair

STOP!
Don't even think about throwing out those dining chairs you had from your first apartment!
You WILL need them later for something...

Don't fear the refinish!
It is so simple.

First: Wipe down the chair thoroughly.

Next: Get a tarp and head out to the garage to begin sanding. I used a medium grit sand paper.

Then: Wipe down the chair once more to get all of the dust off and cover any parts you don't want to paint with blue tape.

Fun part: Start painting with a foam brush to avoid brush strokes. I used a sample pint from the many I had left over from picking out the wall color for my Little's room, just your basic Sherwin Williams eggshell paint. I did a few coats and let it dry in between applications.

Then: I sanded the edges and crevasses to give it that "shabby chic" look. The chair was a medium stain underneath to begin with so when I sanded, the color popped out perfectly!

Lastly: I applied a coat of furniture wax to give the color a little luster.

Ta-da!

Did you spot the super cute oversized ruler?!
I made that too!

and props to my crafty Momma for the adorable knitted blanket, it is by far my Little's favorite!
